Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Hello dear friends,

I’m writing to you live from Lynchburg’s living room, The White Hart café. I’m sitting here in a window seat with a full view of the shop as well as the bustling main street of downtown Lynchburg, Virginia.

I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m writing to you? The answer is simple: I’ve always had this pull to share, this need to write. I started my first novel in the 3rd grade brilliantly titled The Candy Burglar. I would write away every afternoon in my notebook with a blue marker, and every night, my mom would graciously decipher my horrific spelling and grammar as she typed my story up on the computer.

Now that I’ve recently graduated college, I’d like to think my writing is a bit more advanced, but the passion for telling a story remains the same, if not stronger than it was all those years ago.

Lately, I’ve been on a significant poetry kick. When there is a turn of thought or argument in a poem, this is known as volta. Volta is this shift from one state to another. This term seems relevant now more than ever. If my life were a poem, this would be my volta. I am in-between, I am in volta, and everything seems a bit shaky, so it makes sense that I would choose to start a blog now. In a time in life where very little makes sense, pen and page have always grounded me.

One of my life philosophies is “to keep moving forward,” and if I can’t move forward in anything else, I will move line by line down this page. Publishing this is the first step of many and the first step, as it turns out, is always the most challenging part. I have always been a planner, an EXTENSIVE sticky noter. Because of my perfectionist personality, I’ve always felt I need all the answers and skills before even considering beginning something. I’m a big fan of the daydream stage, the place where plans are never ruined by reality, but daydreams never do you or anyone else any good if they only exist in the depths of your notes app.

So this is me drudging my notes app. I’ve always wanted to start a blog, but I was never sure what I would write about until recently. But that’s the beauty of a blank page; you can fill it with anything. And while I can’t promise that I won’t deviate down the line, I can tell you that coffee shops WILL be a central theme, as will travel and outdoor adventures! So if caffeine and camping fall within your definition of a good time, then welcome! I look forward to sharing with you! So prepare yourself for a lot of mistakes, a lot of learning, and of course, an adventure!

Yours truly, Haley
